Seasonal wildlife management tips for autumn
As autumn approaches, seasonal changes in temperature influence the behavior of various wildlife seeking shelter in homes.
For vipers, such as the common adder (Vipera berus), cooling temperatures prompt movement toward hibernation sites. A key indicator of a snake's presence inside a home is the discovery of an exuvia, or shed skin. These translucent, scale-patterned husks can be found in sheltered spots like behind boxes or under workbenches.
Similarly, spiders often enter living spaces in search of warmth and mates during the fall. Experts suggest using natural olfactory barriers to deter them. Strong scents, such as peppermint oil, vinegar, lavender, or eucalyptus mixed with water, can be sprayed around entry points like window frames to create a repellent barrier.
