Seaspan Corporation receives investment grade rating upgrade from KBRA

Seaspan Corporation, a major global marine transportation company and the world’s largest independent owner and operator of containerships, has received a credit rating upgrade from Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA).

KBRA upgraded Seaspan’s issuer and senior unsecured debt ratings from BB+ to BBB-, reaching investment grade status. The agency also affirmed the company’s BBB senior secured debt rating. The upgrade is attributed to Seaspan’s growth, strong contracted cash flow, funding flexibility, high utilization rates, and consistent operational performance.

KBRA noted that the upgrade reflects Seaspan’s increased scale, expanded unencumbered fleet, longer average charter duration, and diversified funding sources. Seaspan’s Chief Financial Officer, Andreas Brauch, stated that achieving investment grade status reflects the strength of the company’s operating platform and its commitment to maintaining a robust financial profile while investing in growth.
