Seaspan Energy completes 150 LNG bunkering operations, ranks seventh worldwide

Seaspan Energy announced that it has performed its 150th ship‑to‑ship LNG bunkering operation, achieving the milestone in just 18 months since its first bunkering at the Port of Long Beach in December 2024. The Canadian firm now operates three dedicated LNG bunker vessels on the West Coast, averaging about 12 bunkers each month, with more than half of the operations conducted at the Port of Vancouver.

The company supplies LNG sourced from FortisBC’s Tilbury facility to cruise ships, container vessels, car carriers and tankers serving ports in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Royal Roads, Long Beach and Seattle. Company president Harly Penner highlighted the team’s effort, while LANSDOWNE Moritz consultant Gary Regan noted Seaspan’s seventh‑place global ranking and growth prospects, and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s Jeff Scott pointed to the rapid expansion of LNG bunkering as a sign of the shipping industry’s decarbonisation push.
