Automotive safety belts feature a small plastic button on the strap designed to prevent the metal clip from sliding down the belt. This mechanism allows drivers to easily grab the buckle when entering a vehicle without having to search for it. While this feature improves convenience, it does not impact the actual safety performance of the belt and is not a requirement for technical inspections.

Regarding legal requirements, Belgian traffic laws mandate seat belt use whenever they are present in a vehicle, though specific exceptions exist. These include maneuvering while reversing, certain priority vehicle operators during interventions, and taxi drivers while transporting passengers. Additionally, postal workers performing frequent short-distance stops and individuals with official medical exemptions are permitted to drive without a belt under specific conditions.
