SEAT faces uncertain future as Volkswagen Group restructures

The future of the Spanish automotive brand SEAT is uncertain as Volkswagen Group undergoes restructuring to prioritize more profitable models. While the brand remains valuable, its continuity is not guaranteed beyond 2030. Currently, the brand's performance is being bolstered by CUPRA, a more sporty variant within the Volkswagen Group that is seeing increased sales volumes.

Spanish labor unions, including Comisiones Obreras and UGT, are calling on public administrations to intervene and protect the company. They are advocating for a technological partner or alliances with other manufacturers, specifically suggesting that Chinese brands could provide the necessary electric platforms to ensure SEAT's survival. Unions argue that the lack of investment and the failure to assign a second electric platform to the Martorell plant threatens the company's long-term viability, though they believe jobs in Martorell are secure until at least 2030.
