SeatGeek fined $25,000 by Ontario for ticket resale violations
The Ontario government has issued a $25,000 administrative penalty to SeatGeek Canada Inc. for violating provincial ticket resale regulations. The fine follows an inspection on August 5, 2026, and is part of enforcement measures introduced in the 2026 Ontario Budget to prevent illegal ticket reselling and protect consumers.
The penalty is broken down into three specific contraventions: $10,000 for failing to ensure tickets were not resold above their original total purchase price, $10,000 for failing to disclose the original price to buyers, and $5,000 for facilitating resales without proof of the original price paid to the primary seller.
SeatGeek was issued the penalty on August 28, 2026. Because the company did not file an appeal with the Licence Appeal Tribunal within the required 15-day window, it is expected to pay the full amount within 30 days.
