Seattle judge orders home detention for Bite of Seattle shooting suspect
A judge has ordered the release of a teenage suspect involved in the deadly mass shooting at the Bite of Seattle festival to home detention with electronic monitoring. The decision overrides objections from prosecutors, who argued the teenager remains a severe threat to community safety.
The shooting occurred on July 26, when the suspect allegedly fired a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine into a crowded area of the food festival. The incident resulted in three deaths and four injuries. One of the deceased was identified in court records as an associate of the teenager who was also armed.
The suspect faces charges of first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. While currently in juvenile court, the State is seeking to decline juvenile jurisdiction to try the individual as an adult.
