Seattle Mariners claim Michael Toglia off waivers from Cincinnati Reds

The Seattle Mariners have claimed first baseman Michael Toglia off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds. Toglia, a 28-year-old switch-hitter, brings significant power potential to the Mariners' roster, having hit 25 home runs for the Colorado Rockies in 2024 and 22 home runs for AAA Louisville in 2026.

Despite his power, Toglia faces challenges regarding contact consistency and health. During his 2024 season, he maintained a high barrel rate but also a strikeout rate of 32.1 percent. His recent stint with the Reds was brief and difficult, resulting in only three hits in 26 at-bats. Additionally, his season with Cincinnati ended due to shoulder surgery following a dislocation in August, presenting a recovery consideration for Seattle as they look toward the 2027 season.
