Seattle Mariners eliminated from MLB playoff contention

The Seattle Mariners have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, ending their season following a 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Despite entering their 50th anniversary season with high expectations after nearly reaching the World Series the previous year, the team finished with a 74-85 record.

Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh expressed disappointment regarding the team's failure to improve throughout the year, noting that the squad was unable to “right the ship.” Manager Dan Wilson also acknowledged that the season did not meet the organization's expectations.

In a broader look at the 2026 season, the New York Mets also experienced a significant collapse. Despite having one of the highest payrolls in baseball at approximately $380 million, the Mets finished in last place with a 73-87 record. Their struggles were attributed to key injuries to players like Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, poor performance in close games, and the decision to let Pete Alonso depart the team.
