Seattle proposes paid parking and safety upgrades for West Seattle and Upper Queen Anne

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has unveiled a proposal to restructure curb space and improve street safety in the West Seattle Junction and Upper Queen Anne business districts. The plan aims to reduce traffic congestion and increase accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and delivery drivers.

Key components of the proposal include the introduction of paid on-street parking in the busiest areas, the creation of dedicated loading zones, and enhanced safety features for street crossings. Additionally, the plan seeks to provide more parking spaces for people with disabilities and designated areas for bike and scooter sharing.

The proposal follows analysis of current conditions and feedback from public surveys and local outreach. If implemented, the new street management system is scheduled to begin in 2027.
