Seattle Seahawks record $9.6 billion sale clears NFL committee votes
The sale of the Seattle Seahawks to a group led by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and his family has cleared two major procedural hurdles. On Wednesday, the NFL’s finance and ownership policy committees voted unanimously to recommend approval of the $9.612 billion transaction.
The deal involves the purchase of the franchise from the Paul Allen estate, which has held the team since Allen’s death in 2018. The sale price sets a new NFL record for a franchise and represents the second-highest valuation in North American sports history.
The final step for the transaction is a vote by the full NFL ownership group, scheduled to take place in Atlanta. To be officially approved, the sale requires at least 24 affirmative votes from the league’s 32 owners.
