Seattle Seahawks sold to Khosla family for record $9.6 billion
NFL owners have unanimously approved the $9.612 billion sale of the Seattle Seahawks to a group led by Vinod Khosla and his family. The transaction sets a new record for the most expensive NFL franchise sale, surpassing the $6.05 billion sale of the Washington Commanders in 2023.
The sale follows the wishes of the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, whose estate had been managing the team since his death in 2018. Per Allen's instructions, the proceeds from the sale are to be donated to various charitable causes.
Neeru Khosla is expected to serve as the controlling owner, with their son, Neal Khosla, taking on a significant leadership role. As part of the agreement, the Khosla family must relinquish their minority ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers. Vinod Khosla, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, expressed that the family's goal is to maintain the team's winning momentum following their recent Super Bowl victory.
