Seattle Seahawks struggle with kickoff return coverage

The Seattle Seahawks are experiencing a significant decline in their kickoff return coverage through the first three weeks of the season. After ranking as one of the best units in the NFL in 2025—allowing only 24 yards per return—the team is currently allowing an average of 30.1 yards per return, ranking 30th in the league.

This regression has resulted in opponents starting drives at a much more advantageous field position. While the Seahawks previously limited opponents to starting near their own 25-yard line, opponents are now frequently starting near the 32 or 35-yard line. Analysts suggest the issue may stem from difficulties with outside contain and blocking, potentially linked to player departures during the offseason.

While kicker Jason Myers has been perfect on field goals and extra points following a difficult preseason, other special teams components have struggled, including a recent poor performance by punter Michael Dickson.
