Seattle Seahawks weigh running back options amid injuries and roster changes

Defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks face significant turnover on both staff and roster as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season. After star running back Kenneth Walker left in free agency and backup Zach Charbonnet suffered a torn ACL in the playoff round, the Seahawks must decide who will start at running back.

Coach Mike Macdonald has kept the door open for Charbonnet’s return, but the short‑term answer appears to be undrafted veteran George Holani, who stepped up when Charbonnet was injured last season. Rookie Jadarian Price, the team’s first‑round pick from Notre Dame, is also in the mix, while backup George Holani has been receiving first‑team snaps more frequently than other options such as Emanuel Wilson. The Seahawks also lost edge rusher Boye Mafe and other depth pieces, prompting further roster adjustments.

Analysts note the Seahawks’ depth at the position and the coaching continuity under Macdonald, but the loss of Walker and Charbonnet’s injury create uncertainty for the team’s rushing attack heading into the upcoming season.
