Seattle-Tacoma International Airport advances S Concourse expansion

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is advancing major modernization efforts, highlighted by the S Concourse Evolution project. The Port of Seattle Commission has authorized initial funding for the project, which aims to transform the 1970s-era facility by adding 150,000 square feet of space, including a new upper concourse level, expanded dining, retail, and lounge areas. Major construction is slated to begin in 2027, with HOK and AECOM serving as lead designers.

During a recent Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce luncheon, airport officials also discussed Alaska Airlines’ expansion and new international flight opportunities. However, the plans have met resistance from local representatives. Brian Davis of the Burien Airport Committee noted that Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac, and Tukwila have filed objections to the airport master plan, arguing that the Port of Seattle’s assessments do not accurately reflect the negative impacts experienced by surrounding communities. SEA Airport Managing Director Wendy Reiter pledged to work with neighboring communities to address these concerns as environmental reviews continue.
