Seattle to install hundreds of curbside EV chargers
Seattle plans to install at least 200 Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030, specifically targeting areas with high concentrations of multifamily dwellings such as apartments and condominiums. The initiative aims to assist residents who lack access to private home charging.
Seattle City Light and the Seattle Department of Transportation will review resident applications to select installation sites, processing them in batches of 40 to 50. Permitting is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2027, with construction expected to start in the fall of 2027.
The project is estimated to cost approximately $21 million, funded by the Seattle Transportation levy passed in 2024, supplemented by an additional $2 million from Seattle City Light. The current cost for using these Level 2 chargers is set at $0.21 per kWh.
