Seattle weather: Warm temperatures followed by weekend storms
Western Washington is transitioning from a period of warm, sunny weather to a more unsettled pattern. Mid-week temperatures in the Puget Sound area are expected to reach the mid-70s to mid-80s, with increasing cloud cover arriving by Friday as an upper-level low pressure system approaches from the southwest.
Rain and potential thunderstorms are forecasted for the weekend, particularly on Saturday. While the Puget Sound lowlands may see highs in the 60s or low 70s, the highest risk for thunderstorms and gusty winds is located in the mountains and the Cascades. By Sunday and Monday, high pressure is expected to rebuild, bringing drier conditions and a return to near-normal temperatures.
Authorities have noted wildfire and air quality concerns. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for portions of Central and Eastern Washington due to warm, dry conditions. There is concern that dry lightning from potential Saturday thunderstorms could trigger new fires, while gusty winds could increase the spread of existing ones.
