SeaWorld San Diego shuts down after power outage

A power outage that began shortly after noon on Friday, July 31, affected SeaWorld San Diego and forced the entire theme park to close for the rest of the day. San Diego Gas & Electric reported that the outage impacted about two dozen customers, including the park, and crews worked to restore service while the San Diego Fire Department investigated reports of smoke, finding no active fire.

SeaWorld said that all animal‑care and life‑support systems remained fully operational and that the safety of guests, ambassadors and animals was the highest priority. Spokesperson Tracy Spahr confirmed the company was cooperating with SDG&E to resolve the issue. Visitors described the abrupt halt, with one guest noting, “We were at the orca show, and they just didn’t do the show.”
