Sebastian Kurz predicts stricter EU migration policies
On the occasion of his 40th birthday, former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has provided a retrospective on his political career and issued a forecast regarding European migration policy.
Kurz expressed strong support for his previous 'Turquoise-Blue' coalition with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), describing it as a stable and successful partnership that achieved significant results in tax reform and migration control. He noted that the dissolution of this coalition following the 2019 Ibiza affair was a deeply regrettable moment in his career, contrasting it with his subsequent cooperation with the Green Party, which he characterized as less efficient.
Regarding the future of the European Union, Kurz predicted that migration policies will become significantly more restrictive. He suggested that Europe will move beyond merely closing borders to implementing large-scale measures to return asylum seekers to locations outside the continent. Additionally, he attributed the rise of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) to the open-border policies of the Merkel era and the political exclusion of right-wing forces by mainstream parties.
