Sebastian Stan reveals why he declined ‘The Vampire Diaries’ lead role

Actor Sebastian Stan revealed in a recent podcast interview that he was offered the lead role of Stefan Salvatore in the supernatural teen drama ‘The Vampire Diaries’ but ultimately declined it.

Stan explained that he felt burnt out following his work on the series ‘Kings’, which was canceled after one season. He expressed hesitation about committing to a new project that might not reach a second season. He noted that he feels grateful for the decision, stating he might not have been emotionally or mentally prepared for that level of exposure at the time.

The role was eventually played by Paul Wesley, and the series became a major success, running for eight seasons on The CW from 2009 to 2017. Stan, known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stated he has no regrets regarding his career path.
