Sebastian Walcott undergoes outfield training with Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott is receiving outfield training during the Arizona Fall League to expand his defensive versatility. Previously limited to shortstop and third base in the minor leagues, the 20-year-old is working through drills under the direction of player development director Josh Bonifay.

Walcott, who is ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, expressed confidence in the transition, noting that the move relies on pure athleticism. The experiment follows a season where Walcott recovered from an elbow injury via an internal brace procedure rather than Tommy John surgery. After returning to action in July, he posted strong statistics, including a .322 to .325 batting average and significant power numbers in Double-A and Triple-A action.

Adding outfield experience to his skill set may strengthen Walcott's path to the major league roster, particularly as he faces depth at shortstop and third base within the Rangers organization.
