Sebastián Castella returns to bullfighting after serious hand injury

French bullfighter Sebastián Castella is set to return to the ring in Huesca and Béziers following a serious hand injury sustained on August 9 in Vauvert, France. After being treated at Hospital Quirónsalud in Zaragoza, Castella confirmed he will fulfill his upcoming commitments despite the severity of the wound.

Castella has issued a formal statement expressing “deep concern” regarding the medical care he received in France. He alleged “serious deficiencies in the medical care chain,” claiming that an active arterial hemorrhage in his left hand was not properly diagnosed or treated promptly. According to his team, the delay in surgical intervention occurred because the initial care in Vauvert and the subsequent transfer to a hospital in Nîmes were inadequate.

After traveling to Zaragoza, doctors identified a star-shaped wound with an extensive skin flap and a large clot. Surgeons performed an operation to ligate the bleeding artery, close the wound, and immobilize his left wrist and hand. While his recovery is progressing favorably due to good blood flow in the area, his ability to complete his scheduled appearances remains dependent on his ongoing medical evolution.
