Sebastián Viera appointed as new Junior de Barranquilla manager

Sebastián Viera has been confirmed as the new head coach of Junior de Barranquilla. The former Uruguayan goalkeeper, who played for the club for 12 seasons and won seven titles, succeeds Alfredo Arias following a period of poor performance where the team went eight matches without a victory.

Reports indicate that the contract negotiations were complex, specifically regarding the duration of the agreement. While Viera reportedly sought a minimum one-year contract, the final agreement was signed for an initial period of four months, covering the remainder of the 2026 season through December.

Viera, who previously managed Real Cartagena, aims to implement a dynamic and intense playing style to help the team secure a position among the top eight in the championship. His coaching staff will include his father, Mario Viera.
