Sebastián Villa pushes for Boca Juniors comeback and targets Colombia’s 2026 World Cup squad

Colombian forward Sebastián Villa, now starring for Independiente Rivadavia in Argentina, says he is listed on the preliminary roster that coach Néstor Lorenzo submitted to FIFA for the 2026 World Cup. Villa, 29, has not worn the national jersey since 2019 and recently told TyC Sports, “I work every day with the hope of earning a place in the final squad.”

Former Boca Juniors figures, including former player Alberto Márcico and ex‑council member Mauricio Serna, have publicly backed a possible return for Villa, arguing that his familiarity with the club means “it won’t hurt him at all.” Boca has not made any concrete transfer moves, but the player remains on the radar of club officials. Villa himself said, “I don’t close the door to anyone; I won’t forget I won eight titles with Boca.”

Villa’s resurgence follows a difficult period that included a judicial conviction in 2023 related to his former partner. His performances in Mendoza have helped him regain form and attract renewed interest from both club and country.
