Boca Juniors completes signings of Sebastián Villa and Álvaro Montero

Boca Juniors announced the completion of two major signings ahead of the second half of the 2026 season. Forward Sebastián Villa will join the club on a four‑year contract after a $6.5 million transfer from Independiente Rivadavia; the 30‑year‑old will undergo a medical exam before the deal is finalised. Villa previously played 172 matches for Boca, scoring 29 goals and winning seven titles, before a stint in Bulgaria and a season with Independiente Rivadavia that culminated in a Copa Argentina win.

Goalkeeper Álvaro Montero, 31, also signed a four‑year deal after Boca paid $4 million to acquire his full rights from Vélez Sársfield. Montero, who is 2.01 m tall and will become the tallest goalkeeper in Boca’s history, completed his medical on arrival in Buenos Aires. He said, “Sabemos la grandeza que tiene el club,” and former Boca keeper Óscar Córdoba praised him as “un arquero de ocho, nueve puntos.” Montero is expected to compete with Leandro Brey and Agustín Marchesín for the starting spot. Both signings were confirmed by club president Juan Román Riquelme as key to strengthening the squad for the domestic league, Copa Argentina and Copa Sudamericana.
