Sebastião Bugalho calls for electoral law reform and budget stability

Sebastião Bugalho, Vice-President of the PSD and MEP, has called for the reform of electoral laws as a higher priority than constitutional revision. He argues that such reforms are necessary to provide a stronger voice to the country's interior regions and to ensure political stability for winning parties.

Regarding the 2027 State Budget, Bugalho warned that the Socialist Party (PS) would be acting irresponsibly and breaking its word if it fails to support the budget. He noted that the PS had previously outlined four preliminary conditions for viability, which the government is currently meeting.

Addressing recent polling that places the PSD in third place, Bugalho attributed the shift to the international energy crisis and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East rather than domestic policy. He defended the government's fiscal approach, stating that maintaining budgetary margins is a responsible measure to ensure continued support for citizens should the energy crisis worsen.
