SEC cancels meeting on crypto regulation and Innovation Exemption

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has abruptly canceled a scheduled open meeting regarding “Reg Crypto” regulation. The meeting, which was set to take place on a Friday, was intended to discuss the development of regulatory proposals and the presentation of the “Innovation Exemption.”

The Innovation Exemption is viewed as a significant mechanism for security-token issuers, specifically addressing cases where token economics and underlying security logic overlap. The cancellation has delayed regulatory clarity for companies attempting to coordinate token financing and subsequent regulatory compliance.

While the SEC cited scheduling conflicts and indicated a desire to reschedule, some analysts suggest the delay may allow the Senate space before its own upcoming votes. The postponement extends the period of uncertainty for the cryptocurrency sector as projects await formal legal guidelines.
