SEC Chairman Paul Atkins proposes new reporting rules to ease IPOs
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins outlined a "Make IPOs Great Again" initiative aimed at lowering the compliance burden for growth‑stage companies. The centerpiece is an optional semiannual reporting framework, Form 10‑S, which would let companies file a six‑month report instead of the traditional quarterly 10‑Q. The plan also calls for disclosures to focus on material information, depoliticising shareholder meetings and reducing what Atkins describes as frivolous litigation.
Atkins presented the proposal at a corporate‑governance conference in Nashville, emphasizing that the SEC’s role is to set rules, not pick market winners. The comment period for the reforms closes on July 27, 2026, and the initiative seeks to reverse the roughly 40 % decline in publicly traded U.S. companies since the mid‑1990s.
