SEC talent remains high despite concerns over new conference schedule

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) continues to lead in talent production despite a recent championship drought, according to preseason data from The Athletic. The SEC has led all conferences in NFL Draft picks for 20 consecutive seasons and holds the most preseason All-American representations, marking the fifth time in six years it has led this category.

However, analysts have raised concerns regarding the conference's upcoming schedule changes. Starting in 2026, SEC teams will move to a nine-game conference schedule. ESPN’s Laura Rutledge noted that this increased volume could lead to more losses, which may negatively impact how the college football playoff committee evaluates teams. While the SEC remains a powerhouse for individual talent, the Big Ten has recently held the edge in postseason All-American numbers and national championships.

Notable preseason All-American prospects include Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy.
