Sechura officials inspect school feeding and family farming model

Officials from Peru’s Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have inspected a development model in Sechura, Piura, that links school feeding programs with local family farming.

In the Vice district, the School Feeding Program (PAE) utilizes an economic subsidy modality supported by the WFP. This allows management committees to administer resources for food acquisition with active community participation. The initiative also includes training through Field Schools for Farmers (ECA) in Bellavista de La Unión, where producers learn sustainable crop management, water efficiency, and agroecological production.

The inspection concluded at the Jehová Nissi Collection Center, an organization of 30 family farmers who produce and market various goods, including sweet potatoes, cassava, onions, tomatoes, and mangoes. This center is part of a provincial strategy to strengthen producer organization and improve market access by connecting local agriculture with food assistance programs.
