Second-hand shopping rises in Spain driven by savings
A survey conducted by Beruby for Amazon indicates a growing trend in second-hand shopping among Spanish families, driven primarily by the need for savings and sustainability. Two out of three consumers in Spain report having purchased second-hand products through individuals, specialized stores, or companies.
More than 75% of respondents cited cost savings as their main motivation. This trend is particularly notable during the back-to-school season in September, as families face rising prices and the financial aftermath of summer vacation expenses. Experts noted that while second-hand markets have long existed in countries like the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States, the perception in Spain has historically been influenced by post-war economic stigmas.
