Second suspect arrested in São José do Rio Preto driver killing

Police in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, arrested a 19‑year‑old man on 7 July as the second suspect in the latrocínio of rideshare driver Wilsiano Soares Novaes Teixeira, 43, who was shot in the head on 11 June during a fare. The suspect was found hiding in his aunt’s home in the Santo Antônio neighbourhood after the earlier capture of a 17‑year‑old accomplice.

Investigators say a dispute over R$2 change sparked the robbery‑murder. CCTV footage recorded the shooting, and the weapon used has not been recovered. The case highlights the vulnerability of app‑based drivers to violent crime.
