Second Temple burial cave discovered in East Jerusalem

Israeli Border Police officers discovered an ancient burial cave beneath a building in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem. The discovery occurred during a police operation following a violent dispute between local families.

Experts from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) conducted a preliminary examination of the site. They have tentatively dated the graves to the Second Temple period, which spanned roughly from the sixth century BCE to the first century CE. Additional archaeological remains were also found within the cave.

The site is currently being secured by police and Border Police in coordination with the IAA, which is expected to perform further documentation and examination of the findings. The full significance of the artifacts has not yet been determined.
