Secret Superstar achieves massive global box office success

The Indian film ‘Secret Superstar’, produced by Aamir Khan, remains a significant commercial milestone in Bollywood history. Released in 2017 and directed by Advait Chandan, the film was produced on a limited budget of approximately 15 crore and went on to earn roughly 970 crore globally.

Much of this success was driven by its performance in China, where the film earned over 700 crore, breaking numerous box office records. The story, starring Zaira Wasim as a 14-year-old girl named Insiya, follows her journey of pursuing a dream of becoming a singer while hiding her identity behind a burqa to bypass her strict father. The film's themes of mother-daughter bonds and resistance against patriarchal norms resonated deeply with Chinese audiences.
