Sector 1 Bucharest Council Approves After‑School Program and Agro‑Market Revamp

The Bucharest Sector 1 City Council met on 5 August 2026 to adopt several local development measures. An after‑school programme called “Education for Life” will provide daily meals and educational activities, with costs split between the local budget and parents, while certain student groups receive free access.

The council also approved a strategy to modernise the sector’s agro‑food markets. Plans include reconfiguring commercial spaces, building new market halls, creating public food zones, extending the network of mobile markets, and establishing a central collection, storage and distribution centre for local produce. Stall fees for certified producers will be cut by 50 %, and new charges will apply for temporary stalls and cleaning of uncleaned stalls.

Additionally, the council authorised mandate contracts for thermal rehabilitation of block buildings belonging to 11 homeowner associations and the modernisation of elevators for 29 associations, allowing the sector administration to manage all technical and administrative steps of the projects.
