Security agencies in Nigeria coordinate on traffic and election planning

In Delta State, Police Commissioner Samuel E. Erale convened a strategic meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Delta State Traffic Management Authority to address severe gridlock on the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway. The initiative aims to mitigate traffic congestion caused by ongoing road construction near the Niger Bridge, particularly ahead of the holiday season. The plan involves joint deployments to manage bottlenecks and the use of standby towing equipment to clear broken-down vehicles. Contractors have also been directed to improve signage and road diversions.

In Abia State, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi met with the Inter-Consultative Committee on Election Security to discuss preparations for the 2027 general elections. The discussions focused on threat assessments, the protection of Independent National Electoral Commission officials, and the secure transportation of electoral materials. Security stakeholders emphasized the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation and regular assessments to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
