Argentina and Chile manage land disputes and legal shifts
In Argentina, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Paraná has ceased accepting all reports, specifically those involving non-criminal neighbor disputes. To manage this, the Ombudsman's Office is instructing police stations on how to redirect such cases to community mediation centers rather than the Prosecutor's Office, aiming to prevent institutional distortion.
In Chile, authorities carried out a peaceful eviction of the Yevide settlement in San Felipe. The operation, ordered by the San Felipe Guarantee Court, affected approximately 2,000 people living in irregular structures on private land. The property owner, Esval, plans to secure the perimeter following the removal.
Meanwhile, in Río Negro, Argentina, a planned eviction of the Lof Peñi Núñez-Álvarez Mapuche-Tehuelche community in the La Japonesa area was suspended. Police and judicial officials withdrew after facing resistance from community members defending their homes and livestock against a legal action initiated by the company Exelia S. A.
