World Pasta Day 2026 highlights Italian production and global heritage

World Pasta Day, celebrated annually on October 25, highlights the global significance and economic weight of pasta. In 2025, global production reached 17.3 million tons, with Italy maintaining its status as the leading producer and exporter. Italy produced nearly 4.2 million tons in 2025, exporting approximately 2.45 million tons, which represents a 2.7% increase in exports.

Beyond its economic impact, pasta is a central element of Italian cultural identity, a fact reinforced by the inclusion of Italian cuisine on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2025. The industry relies on a close collaboration between the milling sector, which selects high-quality durum wheat, and pasta makers to ensure consistent quality for international markets.

Regional traditions across Italy, such as Piedmontese plin and Ligurian pesto tortelli, continue to drive culinary innovation and preserve local gastronomic histories.
