Security breaches reported in UK Royal Navy and US CIA

In the United Kingdom, 24-year-old Royal Navy sailor Teddy Young faces charges of violating the National Security Act. Prosecutors allege that Young, who joined the navy in April 2024, began collecting highly sensitive defense and intelligence information in November 2024. Authorities claim he attempted to contact Russian officials via the dark web to offer this information for sale. Young remains in custody following his arrest in Clapham, with a court hearing scheduled for October 16.

In the United States, David J. Rush, a former high-ranking official in the CIA’s science and technology department, has pleaded guilty to a fraudulent scheme that caused approximately $194 million in damages to the federal government. Rush exploited his position to approve funding for fictitious government programs, effectively acting as his own approving official.

Among the fraudulent activities, Rush requested $46.4 million for gold bars intended for secret agent payments, which were instead stored in his personal safe. He also used government funds for luxury real estate in Florida, high-end vehicles, and private jet travel. Additionally, Rush admitted to disclosing classified information regarding the identity of a U.S. undercover source to an unspecified foreign government.
