Security concerns rise in Dominican Republic and Tamaulipas
In the Dominican Republic, the Fuerza del Pueblo's Secretariat of Citizen Solidarity has expressed deep concern regarding rising insecurity, including robberies and violent acts affecting local communities. The opposition group is calling for greater government transparency regarding security policies, resource allocation, and results. They have proposed a National Plan for Citizen Security and Coexistence, emphasizing that addressing crime requires prevention, education, employment, and a professional police force.
In Tamaulipas, Mexico, the Federation of National Chambers of Commerce (Fecanaco) reports a 20 percent increase in robberies during 2026. Fecanaco president Abraham Rodríguez Padrón attributes up to 70 percent of these crimes to unemployment, reduced household income, and addictions. The business sector is requesting increased investment and job creation, alongside strengthened security strategies such as community-coordinated surveillance and increased proximity policing to supplement the current capacity of the State Guard.
