Security expert Peter Neumann calls for retaliation against Russia

Security expert Peter Neumann has called for Germany to respond with retaliation following an alleged Russian attack attempt on a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig Airport. Speaking on the ZDF talk show ‘Lanz’, Neumann argued that failing to react would signal weakness to Vladimir Putin.

Neumann, a researcher at King's College London, suggested a range of responses, from symbolic measures such as expelling the Russian ambassador to covert operations against Russian cyber networks. He emphasized the need for a strategic balance to avoid provoking a direct confrontation while ensuring Germany maintains viable options.

Additionally, journalist Sabine Adler warned of Russian attempts to influence German state elections in the east. She noted that Moscow is reportedly working to support politicians who might weaken support for Ukraine, specifically mentioning strategic concepts regarding the AfD's stance toward Russia.
