Security expert raises concerns over Albanian police conduct
Security expert Gert Metani has made serious allegations regarding the Albanian State Police during a televised debate. Metani claimed that some police officers may have involvement in serious crimes, specifically suggesting the presence of individuals suspected of being contract killers within the force.
Metani also addressed the police response to recent protests, alleging that individuals with criminal backgrounds were among the forces intervening. He cited an instance where an officer reportedly struck a protester simply for wearing a mask. These claims come amid intense public debate regarding police interventions during civil unrest.
In a separate discussion, security expert Faik Basha addressed student protests, distinguishing between the right to protest and the use of violence. Basha emphasized that while protesting is legal, criminal acts such as theft, arson, or property damage remain punishable under the penal code. He noted that organized violence and destruction seen in recent days have been characterized in other European nations as internal attacks.
