Bolivian Government backs Vice Minister Maldonado amid criminal threats

The Bolivian government has expressed firm personal, political, and institutional support for Vice Minister of Interior and Police, Peter Maldonado, following a series of threats attributed to organized crime. The support comes after a man was found dead in Santa Cruz with a sign addressed to Maldonado, warning him that the deadline had passed and that future deaths would be his responsibility.

Authorities have identified the victim as an indigent person killed at random to deliver a message to the official. Security expert Jorge Santiesteban suggested the murder could be retaliation by the PCC (First Capital Command) following recent police operations against their structures.

In response to the rising violence and organized crime in Santa Cruz, Minister of Defense Ernesto Justiniano announced that the Armed Forces will reinforce security through military patrols in coordination with the National Police. Meanwhile, Attorney General José Armando Urioste confirmed that Maldonado will be summoned to testify as part of the ongoing investigation into the threats.
