Security forces raid 26 locations in Sopore targeting Jamaat-e-Islami network

Security forces and investigating agencies conducted simultaneous search operations at 26 to 27 locations in Sopore and adjoining areas of the Baramulla district in north Kashmir. The crackdown targets a suspected network allegedly linked to the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

The operations were carried out under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Officials stated that the raids aim to gather evidence and establish the nature of the alleged network, its activities, and its links to the proscribed outfit.

The Ministry of Home Affairs previously declared Jamaat-e-Islami an unlawful association due to its alleged separatist and terrorist connections, a ban that was extended for five years in February 2024. Security arrangements were strengthened in the affected areas to ensure the smooth conduct of the searches and to maintain law and order.
