Security forces in Guatemala and Mexico implement body cameras
Guatemala's Ministry of the Interior has launched a project to equip the National Civil Police (PNC) with body cameras. Karen Ortiz, the Vice Minister of Technology, announced that the initiative includes developing process manuals, protocols, and administrative restructuring to manage the technology. While a full-scale tender is not planned for the current fiscal period, the government is exploring a pilot plan to lease 500 cameras for 18 months.
In Mexico, authorities in Quintana Roo are investing 11 million pesos to acquire 500 new body cameras. The goal is to reach 50 percent coverage among operational security personnel by the end of the year, with a long-term target of 80 percent coverage before the current state administration concludes. The investment, managed by the Executive Secretariat of the State Citizen Security System (Sesescqroo), covers not only the devices but also technical infrastructure such as charging stations and automated data storage systems.
