Security forces seize synthetic drug lab in Fresnillo, Zacatecas

Security forces have seized a clandestine laboratory suspected of producing synthetic drugs in a mountainous area of the Fresnillo municipality, Zacatecas. The operation, known as ‘Operación Tornado’, was carried out by the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata Zacatecas (FRIZ).

The facility covered approximately 500 square meters and included an open-air kitchen setup for processing illicit substances. Authorities recovered various items used in drug production, including two reactors, approximately 26 LP gas tanks, five processing cylinders, heavy-duty plastic tubs, drums, containers of liquids, a scale, two electric mixers, metal spatulas, fans, and artisanal stoves and burners.

Additionally, investigators found sacks appearing to contain caustic soda, an artisanal water storage cistern, industrial hoses, and various tools such as shovels. A makeshift camp used for personnel to stay on-site was located about 100 meters from the processing area. The site and all seized evidence have been placed under the custody of the competent authorities for legal processing.
