British man missing in Lake Como after attempting rescue

A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway in Lake Como, Italy, following the disappearance of a 37-year-old British man. The man reportedly dove into the water near the San Siro area to assist a father and his 16-year-old son who were in distress after swimming from a rented boat.

The father and son were successfully rescued by a passing vessel but were treated for hypothermia. The British national, however, vanished beneath the surface. The search is being complicated by the lake's significant depth, which reaches between 150 and over 200 meters in the area.

Rescue efforts include the Italian Coast Guard, divers from Milan, helicopters, and specialized boat units. Authorities are also preparing to deploy underwater robots to scan the lake bed. The UK Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting the family and remains in contact with local Italian authorities.
