Security Issues at Puerto Plata Justice Palace During SCJ President's Visit
On a Tuesday hearing at the Palacio de Justicia in Puerto Plata, a crowd disrupted proceedings related to the murder of Lorizol Alberto de los Santos de la Rosa, known as “el Cristiano.” Individuals attempted to physically assault the accused, and journalist‑lawyer Gregorio Ramón Rosario was attacked and had his phone destroyed while recording the incident. Court employees and the public expressed concern over the lack of security and urged Supreme Court Council President Luis Henry Molina and Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso to take corrective action.
Later, Supreme Court President Luis Henry Molina Peña visited the same courthouse as part of a national monitoring tour for the 2034 Justice of the Future Plan. He met with judges and judicial staff, reviewing progress such as 83 % of courtrooms meeting schedule targets and recent upgrades including the installation of climate‑control equipment. Molina emphasized the plan’s three pillars—agile, accessible, and transparent justice—to modernize the Dominican Republic’s judicial system.
