Security operations in Ghana and Kenya yield arrests and weapon recoveries
In Ghana, the IGP Special Operations Team arrested 192 suspects during intelligence-led operations conducted between October 2 and October 29, 2026. The operations spanned several communities, including Teshie, Lapaz, Chantan, and Okaishie. Authorities recovered firearms, ammunition, and various substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, including cocaine, tramadol, and codeine-containing products. In Teshie alone, 102 suspects were apprehended. Additionally, a businessman in Odawna was arrested following the recovery of suspected cocaine from a hideout.
In Kenya, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo reported progress in combating banditry in the North Rift region through Operation Maliza Uhalifu and Operation Rudisha Bunduki. Since their launch in February 2023, these security operations have resulted in the recovery of more than 2,600 illegal firearms and over 17,000 head of livestock. The government strategy aims to address the root causes of insecurity, such as criminal networks and competition over resources, while targeting those who finance and organize livestock theft.
