Security operations in Sahel: Mali strikes terrorists and Algeria recovers German hostage
The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) reported successful military operations against terrorist groups in the Kidal, Tessalit, and Boulkessi sectors. As part of Operation Dougoukoloko, aerial assets targeted several gatherings of the JNIM/FLA coalition, which possessed significant weaponry and armed vehicles. On August 7 and 8, 2026, the military reported that terrorist elements were neutralized and their war materiel destroyed following intelligence-led strikes.
In a separate regional development, Algerian military security services received a German national, Ulumaskan Sinan, who had been kidnapped by an armed criminal group in Niger. Following approximately two weeks in captivity, Sinan was transferred via special flight from the In Guezzam deployment base to the Boufarik military base in Algeria. He is reported to be in good health and will be handed over to German authorities.
